the president, unemployment, and piano

I got to watch the entire inauguration with my students last Tuesday morning. Some of them were very interested and some of them could care less. I remember being in elementary school and having mock presidential elections. I didn't really understand any of it, but I knew I shouldn't vote for Bill Clinton. (oh, my sweet little mind) Anyway, because I didn't care as a little girl, I obviously didn't expect 100% focus and interest in the inauguration from my students. But, I told all of my classes that they will remember this for the rest of their lives.

We are constantly reminded on the news that unemployment numbers are going up. However, Colt and I had a little laugh the other night. While discussing unemployment, they began talking about the unemployment office. One man commented on how busy it's been because people are constantly filing for unemployment. He went on to say that because of this, the office has had to hire several people to help out with these increasing numbers...... You do the math.

Having two days off has been wonderful. I'll probably regret it in May, but for now, it's been a nice break. I've enjoyed getting things done and starting some things I haven't had the chance to do. However, something that has really made me sad lately is not being able to play the piano whenever I want. Obviously, when I'm at school, there are a few moments I can sit down and enjoy playing, but very few. It seems I can always find something else that has to be done while at work. It would just be nice to come home, play, and write. Someday..

The stars come nightly to the sky;
The tidal wave unto the sea;
Nor time, nor space, nor deep, nor high,
Can keep my own away from me.
