letters to nova - 3 months

August 29, 2014

Dear Nova,

You are such a kissable little thing and have brought so much joy into our lives.  While a lot of things have seemed more difficult logistically with you (pregnancy, birth, nursing, etc.), you're not a difficult baby at all.  You cry and get fussy like a normal baby, but for the most part, you are so happy.  I'm very thankful for that.

At 11 weeks, you started sleeping a full 10-11 hours at night.  You hadn't been interested in eating your first feeding for several mornings in a row and I knew your nighttime feeding was the reason for this.  You were a healthy, thriving, gaining, happy baby, so we decided to let you fuss a bit when you woke at night.  Sure enough, you went back to sleep and I ended up needing to wake you up that next morning!  Since then, you've done a consistent 10.5-11.5 hours at night and I am in heaven.  I love knowing you're rested and I love getting my rest!

You're a great napper a lot of the time.  I can typically always rely on a great first morning nap though.  But I'd say our days are 60% good naps and 40% bad 45 minute naps right now.  Most of that has to do with me figuring out your waketime though.  I think each of your optimal waketimes for each different waketime period are different which makes keeping track of it pretty tricky.

You're eating 6 times a day and still only spitting up a little bit after each feeding.  (Hurray!)  I love making you smile while you're eating.  Those are such sweet moments I have with you.

You love chewing/sucking on your hands.  We've actually started swaddling you with your hands either on your chest or up by your mouth for naps.  You end up getting out of your swaddle anyway so we figured we may as well get you used to starting out like that.

You have rolled over both ways at this point, but I think the back-to-tummy was a one time fluke.  You've done tummy-to-back several times and can hold your chest up for several minutes at a time.  Most of the rolls and tummy time happen on your playmat, which you absolutely love.  We place you under that thing and you kick like crazy!

I love all your little squeals, moans, and high noises.  I love watching your eyes and eyebrows as you "talk" to me.  Those two little dimples melt me every single time you smile.  Your cheeks are just asking for kisses all of the time.  Nova, you bring a lot of joy to the people around you.  I know that is part of who God has made you to be - a giver of joy.  I love you with my whole heart.

Love,
Mom
