letters to nova - 7 months

December 29, 2014

Dear Nova,

This past month was a long one and a hard one.  You've been fighting ear infection after ear infection.  These infections were accompanied by a runny nose, cough, breathing treatments, interrupted sleep, a bad diaper rash, and not much of an appetite.  Just when we thought you were getting better, something would get worse.  It is just so sad to have a sick baby.  After a few different kinds of medications, I think we're finally in the clear (fingers crossed).  In the past few days, you've turned a corner and it seems like you're back to your happy, giggly self.  I'm so relieved!

You've been able to roll both ways for awhile now, but just recently, you've become a rolling maniac!  It is so fun to watch you get from one place to the next just by rolling!  I love watching you move your hands around in different ways as you observe them so intently.  You've started sticking your tongue out, which is obviously the cutest thing ever.  "Mamamama" is your constant noise and I love it because it sounds like my name.  You've started to spread your arms out wide when one of us comes toward you to signal that you want to be picked up.  I melt into a puddle every time you do it.

Each day you have 4 bottles, 3 rice feedings (breakfast, lunch, dinner; just added the lunch feeding in the past few days), and 1 veggie feeding at dinner.  So far, you've tried carrots, squash, and sweet potatoes; you love all of them!  You take 3 naps a day and you sleep around 11-11.5 hours at night.  You weigh 18 lbs. 2 oz. and you are most definitely in 9-12 month clothing.  I recently purchased a few new 9 month clothing items that are almost too small for you!

I love being a family of 4.  I love that Duke has a little buddy to talk to and laugh with in the backseat of the car.  You both adore each other.

A couple weeks ago at church, a sweet woman we know came up to talk to me.  She looked down at you and began to pray a quick blessing over you.  She prayed that you would be a light to others, helping them find their way.  I pray the same for you - that you would be a bright star.  Just as it is framed on your wall and just as I sing to you so often ...
"Then the traveler in the dark thanks you for your tiny spark.  He could not see which way to go if you did not twinkle so.  Twinkle, twinkle, little star.  How I wonder what you are."
I love you my precious girl.
