letters to nova - 14 months
July 29th, 2015
My sweet, squishy, yummy Nova. I want to gobble you up. This age is just heavenly.
You're the cutest little thing there ever was. It's such a joy watching you play and do new things. You have just recently started looking at books on your own and flipping the pages. I'll suddenly find you over in a corner looking through a book. Your vocabulary is also expanding and you're able to repeat words that we ask you to say. It's heart melting to hear your versions of words. You can point to your nose, eye, and head (and ours, too) when we ask you to. You love when we hold you up so you can turn light switches on and off. You love cuddling with me when I sit on the floor. You naturally hum sol-mi just like many of the songs we sing. You love saying, "There she is!" (which sounds like "eh sheees") after you hide and we ask, "Where's Nova?"
You and Duke have entered into a new season of sibling-hood. Learning how to share, take turns, refrain from hitting, and not grab things out of his hand are some new skills we are having to work on. Although you all have your fighting moments, you also still adore him. You make every noise he makes. Your car engine noises are pretty awesome, I will say. You imitate him all day long and watching the two of you give each other kisses is so sweet.
You weigh 23 lbs. and your top two teeth have just broken through, making a total of 4 teeth. You are an amazing eater and basically devour anything we put in front of you. You are still not walking. In fact, anytime I try and get you to walk, you think it's funny and squirm until you're back on the floor. If you ever happen to be accidentally standing alone, once you realize it, you quickly sit down.
You sleep 12-13 hours at night and take one nap each day. You usually cry or make noise in the middle of your nap as you're still adjusting to making that nap longer. But I've loved getting to have you up for the entire morning so you can play with Duke and so we can all go out and do things together.
Being away from you for 9 days while we were in Maui was so hard for me. It was a great trip, but I know that was definitely all my heart could handle. I couldn't wait to get back to you. The three of us could feel something missing while we were away. You truly are such a light in all of our lives. What you bring to this family is so special. I love you more than you'll ever know.
