letters to nova - 22 months
March 29, 2016
My Nova, how do I even sum up who you are in a short letter?
You are a smart little girl. You understand everything and communicate very clearly. We have no doubt what you're saying or what you're wanting. One of the best things is hearing you and Duke talk to each other. Your dad and I love hearing your conversations in the backseat of the car.
You belong on a stage somewhere. You are full of stories and phrases (like "Whoa mister!") and dramatic facial expressions. You make us smile, you make us laugh, you make us look at each other like what-in-the-world-I-can't-believe-this-person-belongs-to-us. There's this little sequence of "Okay!"s that you do in all different inflections and it's probably our favorite little act going on right now.
You are a growing girl who is tall and beautiful. You are still a pretty good eater and sleeper. You sleep 12-12.5 hours at night and average 2-3 hours a day for your afternoon nap. It's hard to get a good look, but I think you've got about 8 teeth and 4 molars at this point.
You are loved. I'll never forget the afternoon Duke came running in from the backyard yelling, "Mom! Mom! Nova fell down!!" I ran out and discovered you had attempted to climb the ladder on the playhouse and didn't quite make it. Thankfully, you weren't seriously hurt. But the way your sweet brother came to your rescue made my heart swell. He has always been like this with you, so it's no surprise. But I just don't think it will ever get old watching the way he loves you and cares for you. Just the other day out of the blue, Duke proclaimed in the living room, "Mom, I really like Nova." He loves you and he likes you. Watching your friendship grow will be one of the greatest joys of my life, I just know it.
You are brave. You try everything (in your own time, of course) and if you fail, you try again. I love this about you and prayed this very thing for you before you were born - that you would naturally make choices in life that are based on faith, not fear. I continue to pray that remains the case for you. I pray that fear will not be your first instinct and that you will walk confidently into the things that the Lord has laid out for you.
Nova, you are a precious little girl with so much spunk and I believe that spunk is going to serve you well in life. I love you, sweet Nova.
