I hope things will start to be more "normal" for you soon. :)Claire@MyDevisinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03002496255868590540noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6139933170224696069.post-36767949481514099242012-06-07T11:15:52.652-05:002012-06-07T11:15:52.652-05:00Were it not for the invention of the breast pump, ...Were it not for the invention of the breast pump, my 1 month old preemie twins would never have had the benefit of receiving my breast milk. I have rented the hospital grade Medela Symphony (the "big guns"). Per a lactation consultant, that's the best pump to teach my preterm body that it needs to get going and feed two babies. I used the Symphony first after delivery while still in the hospital and up at the babies' bedside in the NICU. For the first 2 1/2 weeks I was pumping 9 times a day (every 2 hours) and getting very small amounts. I am now pumping every 3 hours (after each feed).

My babies' mouths are still too small to achieve a good latch without a nipple shield and they aren't efficient enough to actually empty enough milk for a whole feeding. We've been bottle feeding them my breast milk and unfortunately having to supplement with a preemie formula.

I have such an unconventional breastfeeding story already, hoping soon it will look more normal. I would love to solely nurse them and phase out that blasted pump. Oh, and I second getting a handsfree pumping bra, best $34 I've spent in a long time! I recommend the Simple Wishes Handsfree Bra: http://www.amazon.com/Simple-Wishes-Hands-Free-Breastpump-XS/dp/B00295MQLU

Your statement is so true, "we do weird stuff for our kids."Sarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07415088625503952650noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6139933170224696069.post-66734316379051448072012-06-07T11:07:36.979-05:002012-06-07T11:07:36.979-05:00This comment has been removed by the author.Sarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07415088625503952650noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6139933170224696069.post-36227301662513944872012-06-06T22:11:27.411-05:002012-06-06T22:11:27.411-05:00Yes, I was a bit obsessed with my freezer "co...Yes, I was a bit obsessed with my freezer "collection" at first. haha Luckily, I've relaxed. :)Claire@MyDevisinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03002496255868590540noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6139933170224696069.post-76391198007763102282012-06-06T22:09:14.425-05:002012-06-06T22:09:14.425-05:00I've heard good things about that pump! If you " double pump" consider getting a "pumping" bra so your hands can be free or able to help compress. I have a love hate relationship with the pump and you kindda get an obsession with your freezer stash...Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03923117218753121870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6139933170224696069.post-17116382404195812222012-06-06T19:26:37.983-05:002012-06-06T19:26:37.983-05:00Great information on pumping!! For someone who is pumping more than once a day I would recommend the Medela Pump In Style Advanced. It's expensive, but worth it. I have dragged that pump all over the place and pump multiple times a day when I'm at work or clinicals and it is still working great after 10 months. It pumps both sides at once and it usually takes me about 10 minutes. Pumping is like breastfeeding-it takes practice-the more you do it the easier it is to get the milk out that you need. I second the breast massage while pumping!Melaniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18234236404030595055noreply@blogger.com
