what's on your "did" list?

These days, there's always something to do or somewhere to be.  But today, we are just in.

Duke asked last night, as he does every night, "What's tomorrow is?"  I said, "Thursday."  Then, as he always does, he asked, "What does that mean?"  I told him that it means we just get to stay home and play all day long.  I'm not quite sure that was the answer he was looking for, but it didn't completely bother him.  I think some days he likes being able to play with all of his things and let plots unfold with his cars that are usually cut short by, "Hurry!  Get in the car!  We have to go!"

So we've been here all the livelong day.  Both kids are napping, I'm writing this, and I feel exhausted.  What have I even done today to be so exhausted?  Then I remembered that a friend once blogged about how it helps to write down what you've done.

Here's my list so far for today:

Start time: 7:00 a.m.
Ran 1 mile
Showered
Made my bed
Made breakfast for Duke
Fed Nova a bottle and rice cereal
Changed Nova's diaper
Did the dishes
Made breakfast for myself
Changed Nova's diaper
Put Nova down for a nap
Built a tent with Duke
Worked on a bit of picture organizing (A goal of mine is to get all of my loose photos in albums so that they can actually be enjoyed rather than stuffed in a box.)
Disciplined a toddler, including a couple of visits to time out
Read books with Duke
Fed Nova a bottle
Quickly cleaned the guest bathroom
Bathed both children
Made lunch for Duke
Changed Nova's diaper
Put Nova down for a nap
Made lunch for myself
Left another voicemail for the insurance lady at our doctor's office
Took Duke to the potty 284 times
Picked up toys
Put Duke down for a nap
End time: 2:00 p.m.

I didn't look over the "small things" of my day, and neither should you.  When you're at home all day with kids, all of it is "small."  But a lot of "small" adds up very quickly.

So what's on your list?  I bet if you write it down, you'll feel really awesome. "To-do" lists are great, but a "did" list makes you feel even better!

  1. I like this! It's easy to feel unaccomplished in these days as "just" a SAHM. There's no "just" about it, even on an easy day in, there is always much to be done.
