the 3 'R's of summer

I read these 3 'R's in a magazine and thought it was worth writing about.

Relax

I would say this has been the most relaxing summer of my life. So far, every summer has consisted of LOTS o' stuff. As I was growing up, my summers consisted of at least 2-3 camps and usually a family vacation. Since college, I have spent summers doing that, in addition to other things. 2 summers ago was the stress of planning and wedding and beginning a new job. I had no idea what I was doing and felt lost. Last summer was the stress of quitting a job and beginning another new job. I had no idea what I was doing and felt lost. This summer was the stress of ... NOTHING. I spent a week in Maui, a weekend in Canton, TX, a couple of days at Lilith Fair, and a week in Portland. The days in between were filled with leisurely planning and arranging with my mom, lots of thrift store shopping, hanging out with my friends and family, cleaning the house, attempting new crafts, writing music by myself and with karlie, playing with my dogs, cooking yummy meals, writing letters, spending lovely time with my husband, and playing with the timberline hike. Not a hard life at all. I will venture to say this is the most relaxed I have ever been in my life. I will also say that these past 2-3 months have been my most favorite time of life.

Refresh

This summer, I have been completely refreshed, in my life and in my home. I think it's important, at least for me it is, to have a comfortable, welcoming, and refreshing home. I finally had time to hang things on the walls and add the final touches. I know there's always something to be done, fixed, or made, but I feel like I made a lot of progress this summer. My home feels like a haven to me.

Reconnect

There are so many ways in which I've either reconnected with or connected for the first time with friends and family. My family spent some fun and meaningful time in Maui for a week. Little Cooper came into the world in July and made us all melt. I got to meet a lot of Colt's family in Colorado that I had never spent time with. We had a wonderful time seeing the Watsons and the Taylors in Portland. All of my OBU girls were in town for a weekend and we had the most wonderful time. And, of course, it's always nice to hang out with good ole friends. My family and friends are such a blessing to me.

How have you relaxed, refreshed, and reconnected this summer?
