goodbye cable

As I've mentioned before, Colt and I are about to embark on a pretty interesting financial journey.  We are gradually adjusting/cutting things out and I'm planning on keeping track of our adjustments/cuts here.  Maybe you will be encouraged to put some of these ideas into practice or maybe you'll have some good tips for me!

A friend told me that when she decided to become a stay at home mom, someone made the comment, "Oh, I wish I could do that.  You're lucky."  While she did agree that she was lucky, she disagreed with the other statement.  She told me, "Anyone can do it!  You just have to be smart, prepare, and cut out unnecessary things."

So, my job right now?  Well, teaching piano lessons, but also figuring out ways to save money.  Our first cut is cable.  We've discussed it for a few months now and decided it was the right thing to do for us.  Yes, I love watching Bravo and HGTV, but how often do I really watch it?  Honestly, hardly ever.  So, don't come over to our house for any awesome TV watching time unless you're okay with basic channels. :)

  1. In our 7 years of marriage, Jonathan and I have only had cable during that one year that we lived at OBU and had it for free in our Kerr apartment. When you really think about how much you can spend on cable in a year, it adds up to a crazy amount! Heads up: PBS has some decent food and home design shows that give me my fix :)

  2. Good idea Claire! The only time I've ever had cable was when I lived at OBU (same as Leslie!) and I have never missed it or wished I had it! And it's SO expensive!! Anyway, Netflix is one of our best friends. Also, HGTV has a lot of shows online so watch them there sometimes.

And I agree, anyone (excluding single mothers and other people with severe circumstances) can be a stay-at-home mom. You just have to be willing to make sacrifices :)
