weekend review - the black box, the UK, and hand motions

On Friday night, we made the trek to Shawnee, America for OBU's Night of Jazz in the black box. Karlie sang 6 songs and they were fantastic as usual.  (If you need reminding, go check out the videos on her blog - the blog she never updates but totally should.  Ahem.)

I spent many, many Friday nights as an OBU student in that black box.  As we walked in the doors, memories poured in.  It was really sweet to sit in those chairs, listen to really great music, watch my sister sing, and remember all the fun that my friends and I had there.

Afterwards, we went to the one and only place open in Shawnee at 11:00 p.m. - IHOP.  On our way out, I found $40 in a bank envelope on the ground by a car door.  I assumed it came from that car, so I stuck it on their windshield wipers.  And if it wasn't theirs, then happy $40 to some random person.

Saturday morning, we went to Stillwater to spend the day with a cousin we'd never met.  He's from the UK (Brighton to be exact) and says things like, "If you fancy that," and, "moreish."  In noticing things like this, I felt like those girls on Love Actually who were asking the British guy to say different words, and were very let down to find that "table" actually just sounds the same.

I am so glad we got to meet him.  He is such a nice guy with a lot of really cool interests/hobbies.  We're totally going to save our pennies so we can go visit him someday ... so when we're 80.

(Duke was excited to meet Tom, but was way more excited to chase/hit the cat.)

Saturday night was the OLCC worship band appreciation dinner/party.   We ate food from Chick-fil-a, dessert from Cuppies and Joe, and answered trivia questions like "What was the top CCLI song in 1998?"  I guessed "You Are My All in All" but then changed my answer to "Shout to The Lord."  I was certain I'd win.  But you want to know what it was?  "Lord, I Lift Your Name on High."  I should've known.  The one with the hand motions will always win.

Sunday morning was one of those rare occasions when neither Colt or I played so we got to be normal and get to church at the regular time.  That afternoon, I took a nap while Duke did.   He slept from 1:15-4:50 and so did I.  And it was wonderful.

There's a fun post/giveaway coming up tomorrow so don't forget to check it out.  In the meantime, make sure you didn't miss this really cool news!

P.S.  I got an email from eShakti informing me that there was evidently a glitch in the discount code I gave you guys a few days ago.  To fix things, they've made that code valid until March 20, 2013.  Click here to read more about it and have fun shopping!

  1. Hahaha, when I danced at a Christian dance company, we had a dance to "Lord we life your name on high"... with maracas. Yes, it was just as terrifying as you can imagine.

Lastly, so jealous you went to Black Box. So many lovely memories.
