brought together by bedlam

DISCLAIMER: This one is a bit mushy and no one ever wants to be that girl, but hey, I will be that girl every once and awhile on this blog. Okay, please continue ... :)

(taken at ACL in September of 2006)

Many a year ago, 2006 to be exact, on this day, Colt visited my household. As juniors in college, we were pretty good friends and, actually, I had developed a little crush on him the summer before. He asked if he could come by and we could 'work on some music.' This was when I had one foot in The Timberline Hike and one foot out, so I'm sure this was part of his scheme to pull me all the way in. Anyway, I agreed, because I thought he was cute, even though I hated writing music with people because it made me feel weird and exposed and I'd get the heebie-jeebies.

This day, of course, was also the OU/OSU game. The Cliffords are OU fans to the extreme and Colt is an OSU fan. We watched it together and we all survived. Surely that meant something ... right?

Later that night, we went for coffee and sat outside of Starbucks on NW Expressway and Rockwell ... and he paid. Jolie said on the phone that night, "Claire, that's a date. He paid." I said, half-wishing it was but not wanting to get my hopes up, "Oh, Jolie, he just paid because he's nice. It wasn't a big deal." I remember it being such a wonderful night and thinking that I never had this much fun with anyone else.

This wasn't the night that brought us together, but it is one I'll never forget. I was thinking the other day how important it is to remember these little things. Of course, I have these memories written in one of my 20 million journals, but thinking of them now and retelling our story is something that refreshes our relationship. It's beautiful to think about where things started and how all the little pieces fit together. I've decided that every few posts, I'd like to tell a bit of our story. I hope you don't mind, whoever you are.

Side note: I haven't been great about it lately, but if you don't journal, you should, whether it be online or hand-written. Write down what happens in your life, what you think about things/people/God/love, who you want to be, what your dreams are ... it's so fun to be able to read back on all of it.

Little did I know that a blonde haired, blue eyed boy who played guitar and bought me coffee on a Saturday in 2006 would become my husband. And I have to say, I like him even more now.

That's all.

Oh ... and BOOMER SOONER!
