weekend review - the lakehouse

I am sitting here replaying the most wonderful moments from this past weekend.  I spent a few days at a lake house in Missouri with some lovely women.

Although my time there was a bit broken up with changing diapers, feeding, and tending to spit up, it was so worth it.  The coffee pot was always on, conversation was always flowing, and we ate really well.  Each person picked a meal to make and these ladies did not disappoint.  I thought it'd be really fun to take a picture of every meal.  But I was too busy shoving food in my mouth so I only captured one.

(chicken salad sandwiches and spinach salad prepared by Amanda)

Here were our meals for the week:
Thursday Night:  Tacos - Cinnamon Rolls
Friday Morning:  Breakfast Casserole
Friday Afternoon:  Chicken Salad Sandwiches and Spinach Salad
Friday Night:  Margherita Pizza and Salad - Strawberry Lemonade Bars
Saturday Morning:  Eggs and English Muffin Bread
Saturday Afternoon:  Grilled Chicken, Salad, and Garlic Bread
Saturday Night:  Fettuccine Alfredo and Salad - Chocolate Chip Cookies

There's no doubt that I consumed the most at every meal.  It's so nice to blame things like that on breastfeeding.

As far as Duke goes, he did a fabulous job.  This was the first long car trip for him and he had no issues sleeping in a completely new place.  It took us about 6 1/2 hours to get there and that includes a 30ish minute stop for lunch and feeding Duke.  Not too bad.  Duke was a fun travel buddy and did a great job.  And here he is showing off his swimming skillz:

I know.  He's so advanced.

While laying out I got lots of practice singing "Call Me Maybe" and "What Makes You Beautiful."  Those songs turn me into a 13 year old girl who just wants to drive a red convertible and have a boyfriend.  Aren't summer songs on the radio just the best?

Something I loved about this weekend was the absence of Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TV, whatever.  We sat in the house, basked in the sun, and talked.  And boy did we talk.  After any conversation I have with these girls, I feel more educated.

I suppose I've always known this about my friends but I was reminded of it this weekend.  When talking through issues or sharing opinions on various topics, they are so careful in how they speak.  Everything is fair and all sides are represented.  I love this about them.

Of course, there's no way I can possibly capture all of the depth and hilariousness that happened.  I almost didn't even post about the weekend because I didn't know where to start.  I just feel so blessed to know these ladies and I can't imagine who I would be without them.  I would be lacking compassion (and I'm not a compassionate person to begin with, so this would be really bad), perspective, and knowledge.  I would not be whole.

Although it would've been fun to walk away with tons of pictures capturing every moment, sometimes I just forget.  Here's our one token group picture:

(Because I was on the end, I was a bit tempted to do the hand-on-hip-sorority business.  But since I was holding a very squirmy baby close to a body of water, I refrained.)

These ladies challenge me to do my dreams, to see the best in people, to listen well, to form opinions carefully, to laugh really hard, and to be really silly.  I'm not sure when we'll get to do this again, but I hope we can make it a yearly occurrence.

Yesterday we played in the pool at my parents' house and I got sunburned.  A very irresponsible move, I know.  But I put sunscreen on both afternoons at the lake and got absolutely no color.  So I figured I'd just forego the SPF yesterday.  Turns out that was a bad decision and the sun decided to scorch my body.  Oh well.

Colt and I ended the weekend with a nice chat on our porch swing.  Hope you all had a great weekend!
