weekend review - 4 miles, a hair trim, and piano lessons

Friday was a fun day filled with playing at the park, hanging by the pool, and eating BBQ take-out for dinner.

(So chill.)

Colt and I woke up early and ran 4 miles separately on Saturday morning.  Because I've been running with Kelsey about once a week to work on my pace, I was going into this run with the intention of running faster.  (I'll share more on our runs in a later post.)  I don't necessarily know how long 4 miles would normally take me, but I do know my pace would be in the 10:something ballpark.  It would've never been a 9:something pace.

On Saturday, I was hoping for a 9:30 pace.  I kept it for the first 2.5 miles and then lost it.  I tried my best to bump my speed back up because I was determined to keep my total time under 40 minutes.  I ended up running it in 39:45.  I was so proud!  I realize that's barely under a 10 minute mile, but it was a huge leap for me!  I was so excited that I even posted this annoying picture to Instagram.

I'm fully aware of the eye-rolling it may have received.  But even still, I'm re-posting it on my blog.  So I'm obviously not that bothered.  It was a great start to my day to have 4 successful miles checked off the list.

After breakfast, we went to the park to meet the Suarez kids.  I know everyone has been talking about the weather here in Oklahoma, but really, it's amazing.  For the middle of August, this weather is unheard of!  It's been the perfect park weather, that's for sure.

Later that day, I got my hair trimmed.  I resisted the urge to chop it off after seeing a mom in Chick-Fil-A last week with the cutest haircut.  We all know that my frizzy/curly/wavy/thick hair is not going to look like her straight/thin/moldable hair, but my mind always says to me, are you absolutely suuuure?  This is the only reason my hair ever gets chopped off.  Because I'm confused about my texture and think it will be something else when it's all gone.

Sunday was a great day at church followed by a lovely nap and a fun evening with some friends.  After Duke went to bed, I worked on some piano studio business since all my normally scheduled lessons start back up this week.  The summers are always lighter because of vacations, camps, etc., but this summer has been particularly light.  It's really been nice having more time to be out and about with Duke and do fun summery things as a family.  We had a really busy season of life this past winter and spring, so it was a relief to feel like our days were a bit emptier.  I will always remember how special this summer was for the three of us.

  1. You are my running inspiration. :) Seriously, though you are doing such a great job! Someday, I'll become a runner...

And I'm with you on the weather - I hate that it's all we talk about it, but it's too amazing to ignore it!

  2. Wow! I'm impressed by your ability to manage kiddos, running, and life! And what a GREAT run! That's a great time for 4 miles! Congrats! I'm still working on a 30 min 5K. 9:40 pace is still hard, but I'm adjusting to it through interval training/speedwork. Thanks for the inspiring post!
