weekend review - celebrating the 4th, putting up wallpaper is rude, and my birthday is almost here

What a fun past several days celebrating the 4th!

(My brother-in-law.  He's single, but I promise he's a great catch.)

(This guy was pooped after staying up until 10:45 to watch fireworks.)

We spent time with both sides of our families doing fireworks, grilling out, eating way too much, swimming, and falling asleep while playing games.

Actually that was just Nana.  But we all love her for it.

We got back to our house on Saturday afternoon after all of the festivities and cleaned up a bit for a night with the Sullivans.  The boys went grocery shopping for dinner and Ashley and I worked some more on my closet.

Our goal was to start compiling some outfit ideas.  We pulled out all of the summer options (tops, pants, skirts) and got to work.  Although we didn't get to finish, we probably took pictures of around 15-20 outfits.  It was so exciting to see my clothes in a fresh way!  I know that sounds ridiculous, but I just get so tired of standing in front of my closet and saying, "I don't have anything to wear," when I clearly do.  Once all of the outfits have been put together, pictures have been taken, and my closet has been fully purged and organized, I'll post pictures.

Sunday we had a nice night at home, just the 3 of us.

After Duke went to bed (late - because sometimes when it's light outside and you're sharing a snow cone with your son and husband on your porch swing, you don't want the moment to end), Colt and I decided we'd do 45 minutes worth of wallpaper scraping.

Yes, we're scraping wallpaper again.  And you know what I've decided?  Putting up wallpaper in your house is rude.  "Hey future home owners that I don't know or care about, I have no idea what will be fashionable in 5 years or even 5 days, but I'm going to go ahead and live in the moment by gluing paper to the wall that will not be relevant by the time you move in."  Rude.  Painting over a poor choice of color is much easier than tearing off ugly wallpaper, texturing (or trying to re-smooth out the walls), and then painting.  It's just rude.  Don't do it.

Anyway.

When we moved in, we painted over the paint that was over the wallpaper.  Now, we're ready for a new color in our living room and I want to get the job done right.  In 2-3 weeks, this project should be done.  If any of you feel a special urge to help scrape, please feel free to join me.  Or just bring me a vanilla coke to numb the pain.  Think of it as an early birthday gift.  (6 days, people!)

Have a great week!

  1. Ugh. Wallpaper. It really is rude. And I hate long it is taking you guys to get this done :(

We had so much fun (as usual) hanging out with you guys. I can't wait to finally conclude the closet party!
